Automobile Accidents As it Relates to Chiropractic Care

It is always a good idea to get a chiropractic examination after an automobile accident. Medical doctors in emergency rooms are not trained in detecting spinal nerve stress after a fender bender or major automobile accident. Without a chiropractic examination, an automobile accident victim may suffer for years with undetected spinal, disc, muscle, or nerve damage.

Whiplash is the most common result of an automobile accident and this is especially so in a rear end collision. Whiplash occurs when an individual is violently hurled forward (hyperextention).. and then backward (hyperflexion). This can cause muscle, ligament, nerve damage, and more. Symptoms of whiplash are blurred vision, headaches, numbness, muscle aches, pins and needles in face and chest, ear ringing, neck pain, and hearing loss.

Other injuries from automobile accidents are lumbar back injuries which include lower back pain or strain. Bulging, herniated, and slipped discs become common and create a multitude of problems.

Spinal cord injuries can also result from automobile accidents including bruising (contusion), excessive pressure, and compression. The severity of these injuries depends on the force or impact exerted during the accident.

So where does chiropractic come into play when you are talking about the consequences of an automobile accident? Because some auto accident injuries go undetected for years or months, it is important for a chiropractor to diagnose the problem immediately after the accident. In my practice here in Vero Beach Florida, I see patients that have current spinal, nerve and back problems that resulted from a fender bender 10 years prior.

An individual in an automobile accident may not believe that he or she has any physical problems after the accident. Most are concerned about the auto insurance, having transportation, or returning to normalcy.

Remember that when one automobile is struck by another, thousands of pounds of force are exerted on the neck and spine. A five mile an hour fender bender can leave permanent damage that truly may go undetected. An individual may not attribute his or her back pain to an auto accident that happened years ago. He or she may believe that their back or neck pain is due to stress, bending the wrong way.. or just age!

Visiting a chiropractor for a chiropractic consultation is a wise choice when one is involved in an automobile accident. There is no reason that someone should live with chronic back and neck pain for years due to the result of an automobile accident.

Chiropractic care can gently, easily, and safely relieve back and neck pain due to automobile accidents with non-surgical alternatives such as spinal decompression, pro adjuster, and other safe, approved techniques.
